The final of the KO Cup sees St. Aloysius play George Scott's at PCI on Mon 12th May. Both teams finished 1st and 2nd in the Monday Snooker League respectively.

Weds 14th & 15th May see the semis of the Snooker Pairs and the Snooker Championship final. See website for more details.

John

Parish Church beat Huyton Cons in black ball thriller to go into play-off final

Congratulations to Parish Church who now meet the winners of Huyton Cons 2 or St. Dominic’s in the third place play-off final. PCI won through by beating Huyton Cons 1 in a very close match. The result was finally decided when Colin McCarthy held his nerve in the final frame on the very last black. Colin potted the final long black to take the tie and put PCI to the final as they won 4-3.

Snooker Semi Final Venues

The snooker Semi-Final venues will be decided on Wed 30th April after the Lotto draw.

In the Lotto draw for that night if the bonus ball is ‘odd’ (i.e. 1,3,5,7…) then the odd numbered teams will be at home (1,3). If it is even then teams 2,4 will be at home. The semi final pages will be set to reflect this after the draw. This saves us having to gather people together to see a draw for venues.

Huyton Cons take Weds Snooker Title

Congratulations to Huyton Cons No.1 who fought off some late challenges from teams around them to take the Wednesday Snooker Title. They led from the start but had several stutters before finally taking the winners spot.

Oh Brother!

You’ve heard of seven brides for seven brothers, well how about eight brothers for eight cues!

In the early 70’s, the famous eight Fletcher brothers all played for Wavertree Labour Club, a club already well established as having played host to former three times World Champion John Spencer.

The brothers pictured in the link were: Fred, Arthur, Frank, Billy, Terry, Ronnie, Norman and Eric.

In 1972 they started playing as a team in the Prescot & District League in the second division. They started in the 2nd division were crowned Champions at the first attempt. On their promotion, they then won the Division one Championship the following year.

Sadly, Billy died. He was not forgotten though and the current “Bill Fletcher” Pairs Trophy is still played for today in the Prescot League and is much sought after and cherished prize.

There are currently only five brothers left as Arthur and Eric have passed away too. Ronnie has gone to live in Spain but thankfully Fred still plays regularly in the Prescot League for Christ The King in the Monday Snooker Division.

31st March 2008

Ian McCulloch comes to St. Teresa’s

St Teresa's are holding a snooker exhibition evening with Ian McCulloch on Friday April 11th at 7:30pm. Ian will be playing 10 frames and the ticket cost is £10 including a hotpot supper. A draw will take place on the evening for 1 member of the audience to play a frame against Ian, other frames will be against St Teresa's players.

Anyone interested in attending can Mark Willis on 07715 489001.

End of Season

Reminders.

As we approach the end of season please keep up to date with all scorecards and results so teams can keep a close eye won where they stand in the league.

Please also remember that the scheduled last game of the season in the Monday Snooker is now cancelled until Mon 7th April so that all teams will play the final game of the season on the same night.

Feb Meeting now cancelled. Next Meeting on Fri 28th March 2008

It's now been decided to cancel the twice-rearranged Feb meeting in view of Colin's poor health. The next meeting will be Fri 28th March at Huyton Constitutional. The results have not been updated due to the cards going to Colin whilst he was away.

Could you please either email me any missing results or fill in the e-score card via

http://www.pdbsl.co.uk/on-line%20scorecards/e-Score%20Card%202007-8.xls

Given we are trying to move over to a fully electronic site next season, this might be a good time to get to start using the e-score card via the home page.

This is fairly self-explanatory to use but instructions are there should you need them.

I'll update any results as they come in. Any questions please let me know rather than Colin, until he is fully recovered over the next few weeks.

You can also get me on 07754 124 303.

St. Aloysius take Champion of Champions Double

St. Aloysius did the double this weekend as they won both the team Champion of Champions and the individual equivalent in the Snooker Championship through John Burns.

Congratulations to both.

Bernard Humphries

As some of you may have been aware, our President Bernard Humphries has been ill for some time. It has now come to my attention that Bernard sadly passed away on Sunday last.

The funeral is on Tuesday March 4th at 2:00 pm at Prescot Parish Church. I am not yet sure if there are flowers or donations but I should find this out tomorrow and will let you know.

A minutes silence was observed the match with St. Teresa's vs Huyton Const no 1 on Monday in respect to the memory of Bernard. We would ask that clubs try to show some sort of similar respect or contribution to Bernard who has been part of our league for over half a century.

Our thoughts and condolences got to his family and close friends at this sad time.

19th Feb 2008

Bernard Humphries

League President Bernard Humphries is currently seriously ill in Whiston Hospital. Our thoughts are with him and his family at this time. Bernard has served the league for over 50 years.

15th Feb 2008

Fixtures Alteration

All teams in the Monday Snooker division should note that the currently scheduled date for the last league match of the season will now be Monday April 7th and not March 31st as is currently listed in the handbooks. It is expected that there will be some rescheduled games. The idea for the gap is to allow all teams to play the last match of the league season all at the same time so as no advantage is gained from any cancellations.

The original date of Mach 31st will be used to play any missing games. The relevant teams will be notified of this in due course.

4th Feb 2008

Please note there are still several score cards missing. The points from the matches in question will only be confirmed once the cards are received in full and signed by both captains.

24th Jan 2008

Gap Week

Week commencing Jan 28th 2008

The week commencing Mon 28th Jan 2008 is a Gap Week for the Snooker league. This week was put aside for any backlog of league matches that may have occurred during the season to date. Fortunately, thanks to the continued support from all of the league teams, there has been no need to use this week for rearranged league matches.

Should teams, pairs or individuals wish to use this week to play their respective matches in the said competitions, they may do so. The league will release formal dates for the same competitions a little later towards the end of the season.

15th Jan 2008

Knockout Cup

Whilst the Knockout Cup draw has been published, teams are reminded that the draw for this does not require teams to arrange their own match dates. These dates will be set by the league, towards the end of the league season.

Should teams playing each other find gaps in their season where they wish to play their match before any date has been set, then this is of course allowed. All match results need to be handed in within 48 hours of the date that will eventually be set for the given round.

8th Jan 2008

League Handicaps for 2nd half of season

Can teams please note that the current Clubs and Players page has two links at the top. The 06/07 is shown by default and shows the data from the 06/07 season, as it is this which was used to derive the current handicaps. Results are shown in the form WWLLWLWL.

Clicking the 07/08 link will show the current seasons data and it is this which will be used to formulate next years handicaps. The partial representation shown, will be updated as we go through the season and teams and individuals should not use it unless tIt does not mean that handicaps in the 08 part of the year have been changed and it is purely for reference.

All team and individual handicap changes are made by the management committee and the relevant individuals are told as well as the other teams in the league informed.

Please do not presume to play off a different handicap unless you have been told to do so.

There are two other references to the use of the tables also listed below on 16th Nov and 25th Sept.

29th Dec 2007

Christmas Handicap Adjustments

Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

Teams are reminded that the Mid Season handicap adjustments have now taken place at the Management meeting of 29th Dec. These mostly affect Rainhill Ex and one member from Guild Hall. It was felt that these adjustments were the only necessary ones at this point. All of the rest of the changes will take place at the end of the season when we have a full seasons data and can then make more accurate adjustments.

The 16th Nov news item below shows how individuals can assess their potential handicap for next year. The formula used to calculate new handicaps; based on current performance, takes into account a players win-loss ratio, as well as other factors like any high breaks made or tournaments won.

All players will be adjusted by the same rule.

4th Dec 2007

Last 64 Snooker Handicap Results

And Last 32 Draw

Most of the results are now in from the last 64 of the Snooker Handicap. The draw and other details for the last 32 can be found on the Competitions page of the site. Please note that any results not reported will be deemed as not having been played and the players involved will be scratched.

Last 32 matches are to be played on or before Weds 12th Dec. Please phone to 0151 426 7713. More details via the link above.

3rd Dec 2007

Prescot Website back On-Line

After some recent technical difficulties, we are pleased to announced the recent disruption to the website services now seem to have subsided. All of the last week’s results and other items are being updated and will be finished of the next day or two.

Many thanks to Steve Jones for helping sort this matter out quickly and efficiently.

27th Nov 2007

Aloysius Top at Half way

St. Aloysius lead the way in the Monday snooker at the halfway stage. Stephen Welsby also from St. Aloysius currently holds the highest break with an 85.

Next week sees the start of the individual Snooker Championship and the Snooker handicap.

25th Nov 2007

Morrey in Fall

Quite a few people have asked us to pass on their best wishes To Bernie Morrey who has recently found himself in hospital with a broken leg.  Bernie’s wife is also in hospital and we wish them both a speedy return to health.

16th Nov 2007

Did you Know ?

Did you know that the ‘Clubs and Players’ web pages allow you to click on both last year’s data and the current seasons?

Clicking on the 06/07 box shows you last years results and how your handicap was arrived at.

Clicking on the 07/08 box will show you your season to date, and your potential handicap for next year. This is an approximation but will be very close to the mark.

15th Nov 2007

12 year old

Joe Rogers

Of Rainhill

Makes break of 41

Against PCI

Congratulations to 12-year-old Joe Rogers who made a fine break of 41 in his match against Alec Ryder of Parish Church. Joe is probably one of the youngest players in the league and is a smashing young lad. Sadly, the team lost 6-1 on the night.

13th Nov 2007

Postal Strike

Finishes

All scorecards must be received within three days of the match being played.

Only registered players may play in matches

Please note that due to the recent postal strike no fines have been imposed for the last three weeks to more than allow for any cards that have arrived late. This period is now over and any cards not arriving within the normal three days of the match being played will now be penalised as before. The only exception is where a general meeting follows on the same week and it is more convenient to bring the card in person to the said meeting.

Teams are also reminded all players must be bona-fide members of the club they play for and must also be registered with the league before they can play. Any non-registered player playing in any such games will automatically lose that frame by 100-0 and the team in question will be fined for fielding a non-registered player. This has already happened this season and any repetition will result in the same result.

7th Nov 2007

Handbook amendments

Please note that the Fixtures handbook currently has two errors in the Wednesday Snooker. The league match date for Weds 25th Feb 2008 should actually read 27th. Similarly, the competition date underneath for Feb 27th should be omitted.

23rd October 2007

Scotties Join St. Aloysius at the top of the Monday Snooker

Incredibly just five points separate the top eight places in the Monday Snooker with George Scott’s latest 5-2 win over St. Aloysius taking them into joint first with the team they beat – St Aloysius. Stephen Welsby still leads the way in the breaks section with a fine 85 against Woolton Cons Peter Cox.

Thanks to those who have been checking the website and informing me of any mistakes they’ve spotted.

18th October 2007

The next General meeting is Friday 26th October at Huyton Cons at 7:30 p.m. Teams are reminded that attendance is compulsory. If you have any points you would like raising or adding to the agenda please do so. Ideally, items requested to go on the agenda should also have the person/s raising the said issue in attendance at the meeting.

17th October 2007

Clatterbridge Cup

Proposal

Dave McNicholas from St. Aidens has recently raised more than £1000 for a Merseyside cancer fund. Our congratulations to him on this fantastic achievement. Dave has also offered a fine cup, which will more than likely be named the Clatterbridge Cup. The idea at the moment is that teams would play a small league schedule during the summer in order to raise money for this charity as well as keeping the clubs who enter into it ticking over during the out of season period.

Teams will each pay an entry fee and the proceeds would go towards this charity. More details will be announced nearer the end of the season where teams will then get the chance to enter.

2nd Oct 2007

Management Meeting Decisions

At the general meeting on Friday 28th Sept it was decided by the Management Committee that the rearranged game between Huyton Cons No.2 and St. Aidans would be replayed on Weds 21st Nov. It was further agreed and a by-law made that in future games a valid team match (be it cup or league) will consist of four players. Teams who do not have four players will be fined accordingly.

It was also decided that teams who have currently played players off incorrect handicaps due to printing errors, would not be punished. Should players be played off incorrect handicaps for any other reason then this will be treated separately. Whilst the correct version of the handicaps are currently on the website, not all team captains have access to this and so would not have known. A full updated list of corrected handicaps and late registrations were also issued to those clubs present.

The meeting itself was extremely well represented with only two clubs absent. These clubs have been fined and will be notified.

Clubs should note that another by-law was also agreed in that any player being played off an incorrect handicap to their advantage will lose that frame one hundred points to nil.

Clubs are again reminded that all late score cards must arrive no later than three working days after a given match and results should be phoned in to either Steve Jones or Colin Taylor 0151 426 7713 on the night of the match.

26th Sept 2007

Late Registrations

Please note there have been several late registrations in the last week or so. Details can be found on the Late Registrations page.

25th Sept 2007

H. Cons 1 win top of table clash

John Burns takes highest break.

Huyton Cons 1 and St. Aidens remain unbeaten in the Monday Snooker. Huyton Cons 1 stretch their lead to 4 points with a 5-2 victory over CTK. John Burns takes pole position in the breaks table with an excellent 67. Son Darren also compiled a fine 53 on the same night in St. Aloysius’ 6-1 win over PCI.

All clubs are reminded that the monthly general meeting this Friday at Huyton Cons is compulsory and each club must have at least one rep present.

25th Sept 2007

New feature on Registered Clubs pages

Please note that when viewing the various Registered Clubs web pages, you can also click on the two years at the top of the screen to see how individual handicaps were derived and how they are likely to be affected for next season.

17th Sept 2007

Lenny Leads the Way

C.T.K.’s Lenny Agnew leads the way in the breaks in the Monday Snooker so far. For the second successive week Lenny has knocked in a 50+ break. This time it was a fine 56 in C.T.K.’s 6-1 win over Woolton Cons. John O’Shea from the same club is currently a close second. (What are they putting in the water at CTK! and can we all have some J )

16th Sept 2007

New Season starts

Teams are reminded that all scorecards must be handed posted and received within three days of any league match being played. Teams must not play any player that has not been registered by the captain of that team.

There have been one or two instances where players have also been played off incorrect handicaps. These have been brought to the attention of the committee and will be discussed at the forthcoming meeting at the end of September.

Sat 26th Aug 07

Registration night

Thanks to all those who made for a very successful registration night. The only clubs that did not attend were St. Aloysius, Reform, Whiston and Rainhill Ex.

A couple of late registrations were also received and these have been added to the late registration sheets, which can be found on the appropriate page under Registered Clubs & Players. Good luck to all for the coming season and if you have any questions please let us know. There is an email address on most of the web pages, which can be used to pass on any information.

Get well Macka

We have received many enquiries and best wishes and would like to pass these on to Dave McNicholas.

August 3rd 07

Monday Snooker

This seasons sees the two Monday Snooker divisions become one. This new single larger division is all handicapped and the results for all players can be seen on-line. You can see how players get their handicaps and even what they are likely to be next year. Prizes will be awarded for 1st and 2nd place. 3rd place will come from a play-off for those teams finishing 3rd, 4th 5th and 6th.

Aug 2nd 07 Slackers be

Warned

In a bid to stop the increasing pattern of scorecards not being handed in on time, this year the league intends to rigorously enforce fines for non-production of cards. All of the rules surrounding this are already in place in the league rules but this season will see a step up on anyone who refuses to comply with these rules. Clubs and players who do not meet with deadlines this year will be fined or scratched appropriately.

August 1st 07

Website

Revamp

The website gets a new look and has some new features added. Have a browse around and see what’s new. Captains, secretaries and players are urged this year to do everything they can to avoid missing scorecards.

A new on-line score card is also available this year where you can fill in your match details and then click a button to email this to the secretary and his colleagues. The cards will then be used on another web page the Results Fixtures and Tables page where you can see who has been what to who and get full details form past matches.
